Tokenisation of Money: From Fiat Currencies to Stablecoins
Tokenisation of Money: The Expert Perspective
Our new book from Springer offers a holistic approach to understanding the “Why,” “What,” and “How” of tokenized money, examining its necessity, functionality, and implementation across the global financial system.
It covers Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), private stablecoins, tokenised deposits, decentralized finance (DeFi), and regulatory frameworks, with global case studies from the US, Asia, Europe, and beyond.
Critical insights are provided, including opposing views, risks, and the broader impact of digital money on financial stability, sovereignty, and innovation.
Our Managing Director, Elif, contributed a chapter, "Stablecoin Use Cases and Adoption from the End-User Point of View," which focuses on the product perspective and user adoption for stablecoins. Her chapter explores stablecoin use cases and adoption, with a focus on the end-user perspective, evaluating the topic using product adoption and marketing principles. While stablecoins were initially viewed as speculative instruments, they are increasingly positioned as integral components of future payment ecosystems, competing with and complementing Central Bank Digital Currencies (“CBDCs”). The chapter examines the drivers, barriers, and perceptions shaping stablecoin adoption, including regulatory clarity, institutional trust, and consumer education. Drawing on recent industry surveys and adoption studies, it analyzes the retail and institutional applications of stablecoins across payments, remittances, e-commerce, gaming, and corporate treasury. Special emphasis is placed on product adoption principles, from awareness to sustained use, and the importance of transparency, compliance, and strategic partnerships in building consumer confidence. Ultimately, the chapter argues that the long-term success of stablecoins depends not on speculative hype but on their ability to deliver tangible value, stability, and trust to everyday users.
